MANHATTAN, N.Y. - PrAtlas -- American University of Antigua College of Medicine (AUA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with colleges from the Dukes Education family in the United Kingdom: Cardiff Sixth Form College, Earlscliffe, St. Andrews College Cambridge, Rochester Independent College and Hampstead Fine Arts College.
The MOU allows students from the above colleges to attend the International Track of AUA's MD program. Students from the above schools begin their journey to medical school by completing the two-year premedical program at American International College of Arts and Sciences—Antigua (AICASA). After completing the AICASA program, qualified students can then attend AUA. There, they will complete 2.5 years of pre-clinical sciences at AUA's technologically advanced campus on the island of Antigua and have the option to complete their clinical sciences at UK-based NHS Trusts or, alternatively, clinical sites in the US, Canada or India. Students who wish to pursue clinical rotations in the United Kingdom must be UK citizens or otherwise qualify.

Earning a primary medical degree from AUA enables graduates to apply/sit for the Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board (PLAB) test for GMC registration without having their qualification individually assessed.
"We are delighted to give our aspiring medical students the option to study at a prestigious medical college," said Henrietta Lightwood, Dukes Education International Admissions & Marketing Director. "For those interested in undertaking study based on the US curriculum, this MOU gives our students not only the option to fast-track their medical studies, but also offers a wider choice for our medical students when applying to university."
AUA President Neal Simon said he was excited about the opportunity to work with United Kingdom schools in the Dukes Education family—an initiative that aligns with AUA's goal of helping reduce clinician and physician shortages throughout the world.
"We're pleased to offer qualified students from Dukes Education colleges a seamless route into medicine and are thrilled to be working with not just one, but five of the United Kingdom's top schools," Simon said.
