Now, Staff Can Register A Family In 3 Seconds, Reducing Client Wait Time During Food Distribution Service From 3 Hours To 20 Minutes
LEWISVILLE, Texas - PrAtlas -- AdComp Systems Group, today, announced that it has developed an app for the Laredo Regional Food Bank that allows staff to scan a driver's license and register a family to receive food supplies in 3 seconds, reducing the client registration time by nearly 94%. Previously, the food bank's registration team manually entered client information into a form. AdComp designed and provided the app, launched in June, to the food bank at no cost.
During each distribution cycle, the food bank first registers every family that comes in to record demographic information and ensure they are residents of Laredo before giving out food items.
Mr. Scott Owens, a member of the Texas National Guard team deployed to support operations at the food bank amid COVID-19 and former AdComp employee, approached the company with the idea for this app. He said that by using the app, the food bank's staff can now register a family in 3 seconds, whereas previously, it took around 54 seconds.
According to Ms. Carmen García, former Executive Director of the Laredo Regional Food Bank, the app has helped the organization provide faster service during each round of distribution. "Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and to date, the Laredo Regional Food Bank has served an average of 500 families weekly, and at the peak of the pandemic, up to 1000 families per week. During this time, the operations of the food bank changed 100% to drive-through services, resulting in long lines with an average wait time of 3 to 4 hours for services. With AdComp's new app, the wait times have shortened to an average of 20 to 45 minutes," said Ms. García. The app was developed and rolled out during her tenure.

"As a non-profit organization, you have limited access to programs that can read an ID, because we actually asked around and the price was in the thousands. So, … we couldn't afford it. This app is a huge donation for the food bank because it has helped us save time on registration, money because AdComp donated its services and this program, and it has also benefited clients because they don't have to wait in line for long," Ms. García added.
Mr. Owens further noted that the app improves staff safety by reducing the time members of the registration team spend by the roadside. "There are a lot of traffic issues. It's a public road used by trucks and all ... so, for the team to look down at a form for 54 seconds and not pay attention to what's going on around them, that's a huge safety liability. The app allows us to go through the registration process faster and bring the team back into the food bank sooner," he said.
Ms. García also said that the app's ability to scan an ID has also helped address COVID-related safety concerns by minimizing the need for contact between clients and the food bank's registration team staff. Further, she added that the app has reduced the need for additional volunteers on the registration team, cut the time staff members spend outside in the Laredo heat during the food bank's operations, and provided easy access to centralized data to help the food bank identify gaps in service areas, age groups, etc.
