Criminals don't just stash cash—they move it through crypto. Now, there's a powerful new way to help law enforcement recover cryptocurrency from seized and forfeited electronics before destruction.
LAS VEGAS - PrAtlas -- LSC Destruction, a nationwide leader in secure onsite destruction of contraband for law enforcement agencies, is proud to announce a powerful new enhancement to its offerings—Cryptocurrency Scanning, now available as an add-on to its trusted hard drive destruction services.
Recognized for its secure destruction of narcotics, firearms, and electronics—performed onsite to maintain chain of custody and provide compliance with ATF, DEA, and other regulations—LSC's latest service elevates the company to a new frontier of modern law enforcement needs (LSC Destruction).
Illicit actors increasingly exploit cryptocurrencies for money laundering, ransomware payments, and dark web transactions. According to Police 1, over $41 billion in cryptocurrency was used for illicit activities in 2024. While blockchain technology enables traceability thanks to its transparency and public ledger, many law enforcement agencies lack the tools and training needed to fully exploit this advantage.

LSC's new Cryptocurrency Scanning service equips agencies with an advanced, yet user-friendly solution to scan seized hardware—such as hard drives or digital wallets—for cryptocurrency-related data, enabling rapid identification, asset tracing, and potential asset recovery.
Service Highlights
- Onsite and Secure: Like LSC's physical destruction services, the new scanning component is performed at the agency's location—ensuring evidence never leaves the premises while preserving the chain of custody. The scanning solution only looks for crypto-related files, maintaining the confidentiality of other data on the drive.
- Comprehensive Hard Destruction: Whether it's hard drives, hardware wallets, or other digital storage devices, after scanning, LSC ensures both data and physical media are rendered irrecoverable, protecting sensitive information and satisfying regulatory requirements.
- Rapid Turnaround: The scanning process is designed for speed and accuracy, minimizing disruption to agency operations. Potential cryptocurrency found on hard drives can then be extracted and liquidated as part of the asset forfeiture.
- Expert Integration: Leveraging proven best practices in blockchain analytics and crypto investigations, this add-on enables law enforcement to bridge the gap between physical destruction and digital intelligence.
