NEW YORK - PrAtlas -- Broadcast technology innovator BitRouter today announced that it is launching a field trial of enhanced software for its ZapperBox NEXTGEN TV gateway product, working to obtain certification for whole-home content protection from A3SA, the ATSC 3.0 Security Authority.
"This new implementation will enable ZapperBox gateway and client receivers to deliver protected content seamlessly throughout the home via local area network and is designed to meet the ATSC 3.0 Security Authority specifications for gateway profile devices. Working in partnership with A3SA, we've developed gateway technology that delivers the whole-home viewing experience consumers expect while supporting the protection requirements of the broadcast industry. Our field trial with select users seeks to validate that this technology is ready for the market," said BitRouter founder and president Gopal Miglani.

BitRouter's gateway solution field trial will demonstrate the viability of secure, whole-home NEXTGEN TV distribution and reflects the company's commitment to advancing broadcast technology while supporting content protection requirements.
BitRouter offers a family of three ZapperBox gateway devices with one, two or four ATSC 3.0 tuners along with a tuner-free Zapper Mini client for rooms without an antenna. ZapperBox has published a software roadmap to provide gateway functionality for NEXTGEN TV broadcasts that is on par with today's ATSC 1.0 gateway devices. Gateway functionality requires a subscription to the 14-day guide data service starting at $30/year. The three ZapperBox gateway models are priced at $199, $275 and $349.
The tuner-free Zapper Mini client can be used to watch live TV and recordings using Wi-Fi or Ethernet from ZapperBox gateway devices. The Zapper Mini is ideal for rooms without an antenna and is priced at $139. With this latest ZapperBox software update, all TVs in the home can access secure content. All ZapperBox models are now available on the ZapperBox website and on Amazon.
